Wave Form Recognition and Troubleshooting

The essence of excellent monitoring is the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly. A good neurotechnologist must generate and recognize wave forms. When the generated data falls outside established criteria, it is necessary to understand the cause so that the surgeon can be properly advised to take corrective action.

This module applies practical intraoperative monitoring by incorporating information obtained in many of the previous sessions including:

  • Anatomy
  • X-ray, MRI and Conditions of the Spine
  • Surgical Procedures and Instruments
  • Anesthetic Agents

Stimulation and recording sites are illustrated in detail in this course and are further documented in the optional Neurotechnologist Reference Guide. There are five primary areas to troubleshoot and each one is discussed extensively including:

  • Technical
  • Anesthetic
  • Physiological
  • Patient positioning
  • Surgical
